106-year-old car passes MOT

A classic car that was last driven before MOT even existed has passed the test with "flying colours".

Cumberland News has reported that the two-seater Peugeot with number plate AO1 was handed down through the Cumbrian family of its original owner, local magistrate William Parkin-Moore JP, who originally bought the car for £185 in 1902.

And after fifty years under a blanket in the family's garage, the car passed its MOT on Monday.

An unnamed family member said that they decided to sell the car after becoming aware of its true value and hoped that it will be enjoyed by motoring enthusiasts.

"We've no interest in veteran cars - we'd like to see it go to a collector who would appreciate it," they told the Cumberland News.

The family member also stated that although the car and number plates could be sold separately for a significant sum, they would like to see them stay together.

"A magazine said that after years of a happy marriage it would be a shame to force a divorce. Since we put it up for sale we've had all sorts of things come out of the woodwork - people have sent in photos and information about seeing it."

Forbes reports that the most expensive classic car at auction was a 1931 Buggati Royale, fetching $8.7 million (£4.3 million) in 1987.
