18 million drivers unsure of road safety
Over 18 million British drivers believe they would fail their driving test if they had to sit it again now, it has been stated.
Research from comparison website insurance.co.uk found that a large number of drivers feel they are not driving around with the correct safety knowledge, something which could have future implications on their car insurance.
Driving safely and having no accidents are virtually certain to provide a motorist with a lower car insurance quote, but 52 per cent felt they would struggle to pass if they sat their test again.
Possible reasons for this revolve around drivers being unsure of road signs with 12 per cent unsure of the appearance of a 'Keep Left' sign and one in ten failed to recognise a 'No Overtaking' sign.
Steve Grainger, head of insurance.co.uk, said: "It's a fact of life that roads can be dangerous and we're used to blaming other drivers for this. But we must also look closer to home; our own driving skills aren't up to scratch either.
"Even the most competent driver, after years on the road, can become complacent. Many drivers assume that passing their test is where the learning stops and the open road begins. However, our research shows that bad habits come all too easy."
