All learner drivers must now be accompanied
Learner drivers will have to abide by a new law on the road from today, as they have to be accompanied by a passenger who has held a licence for at least two years.
This rule has always existed for first-time provision holders, but it now extends to those drivers who have lost their licence in the past and are in the process of passing another driving test.
And there are other benefits as well as being allowed to drive alone that should appeal to learner drivers, they will also be permitted to apply for comprehensive car insurance.
As a learner, drivers are only able to have third party car insurance, but once a driving test has been passed, a new world of insurance opportunities opens up.
However, despite having the option of a wider range of car insurance choices which may provide a larger degree of cover, the Independent states that a learner driver may have to pay as much as 70 per cent more for comprehensive car insurance instead of third party insurance.
But, many drivers are contemplating downgrading their comprehensive car insurance as a way of cutting their costs on the road, according to research from consultancy firm Deloitte.
