Basic checks could help vehicle through MOT

Motorists who see their road costs hiked by failing their MOT have been told that carrying out some basic preparation before an MOT can improve their chances of a first time pass.

Many motorists are stepping up their search for cheaper car insurance as a way of combating high road prices, including fuel and road tax, however, according to the mail order specialists Car Parts Direct, extra money could be saved by carrying out checks to allow a car to pass its MOT first time.

The company states that many motorists neglect carrying out basic checks and if this was done then the car could pass.

Mark Cornwall of Car Parts Direct, who has thirty years experience in the motoring industry, said: "Something as simple as revving the engine before parking up for an MOT or adding injector cleaner to the fuel can be enough to help ensure a vehicle passes the MOT Emissions test – it's things like this that motorists can overlook."

According to the Vehicle and Operator Service Agency, one in three vehicles fail to pass their average MOT first time.

When purchasing a new car, one in four drivers are considering the impact it will have on the environment, according to Experian.
