Britons urged to check cars before driving holidays

With millions of Britons considering a road trip this summer, drivers have been urged to check their cars for any potential problems before they go abroad to lower the risk of having any accidents.

UK car supermarket Carcraft advises drivers to consult their handbook and make sure their tyre pressure is correct before they travel.

It also urges them to familiarise themselves with their car's tool-kit and make sure it includes wheel removal tools and a jack, while they should also check the engine oil level with a dipstick.

Mike Walsh, a director of the firm Carcraft, said: "Whether travelling within the UK or driving to Europe, there are basic checks that all drivers can do to significantly lessen the risk of a breakdown."

He added that it is also important for drivers holidaying this year to make sure they are sufficiently covered by vehicle insurance before they head off, with a European car insurance policy necessary for driving abroad.

Last week, the Fair Investment Company reported that price is the most important factor to 57 per cent of Britons look for the cheapest car insurance when purchasing cover.
