Celery among items stolen from cars

While many motorists would expect it more of a natural occurrence to claim on their car insurance for items such as a satnav or a CD player, new research has found a range of more unusual items which have led to a car insurance claim.

Research conducted by car insurance company Admiral has found that items that drivers have had stolen from their car in the last year include a cat flap, a bag of homework and some celery.

Admiral looked into 8,000 claims and produced a list of the daftest items that drivers have claimed for with other unusual items including some sandwiches and a six foot Power Rangers costume.

Admiral managing director, Sue Longthorn, said, "We sifted through data from the last year to see what exactly the most commonly stolen objects are.

"Among the more usual CDs and Sat Navs we discovered some very strange things. Quite why someone would leave some of these things in their car or want to claim for them is a mystery."

The research also determined the most commonly stolen items and unsurprisingly technical items such as CD players, satnavs and iPods topped the list.
