Cheap car insurance can offset petrol rise costs
Motorists have been told to shop around for cheaper car insurance as a way of compensating for rises in other road costs.
New research from Gocompare has found that the average driver could cover the increase in petrol costs they have suffered in the last 12 months by finding a cheaper car insurance quote.
Figures from the research state that the average motorist has spent an extra £196 on petrol within the last year because of hikes in costs at petrol pumps, but by shopping around for their car insurance they could save £222.
Diesel car drivers may not be so lucky as the research states that they have splashed out an extra £233 at the pumps.
Hayley Parsons of Gocompare.com said; "The case for switching car insurers is compelling enough at the best of times but with motorists facing increased costs you have to look to save money where you can."
Male drivers should definitely consider looking around for cheaper car insurance after research from moneysupermarket.com found that on average men pay nine per cent more for their car insurance than women.
