Dangerous drivers being clamped down on

Motorists in North Yorkshire concerned that they may have a motor accident with a dangerous vehicle, which could have consequences on their car insurance quote, can be reassured that the number of hazardous drivers are reducing following a road safety operation.

Last week, officers from North Yorkshire Police's Road Policing Group and Safer Neighbourhood Support Teams carried out a road safety campaign between Northallerton and Crathorne.

The officers found 15 vehicles that were in such a dangerous condition that they were given prohibition notices preventing them from returning to the road until their defects were repaired.

Two vehicles were seized because one driver didn't have a full licence and the other no car insurance, while 14 drivers were awarded fixed penalty notices, which will increase the cost of their car insurance in the future, for offences such as speeding.

Sergeant Mike Moorhouse of Eastern Area Road Policing Group, who coordinated the operation, said that the team was committed to making roads safer and these checks would become more frequent in different areas.

Motorists should be warned that driving a car which is not in a roadworthy condition increases the risk of an accident, which could bump up future car insurance quotes.
