Drivers given European driving advice

With thousands of motorists more prone to having an accident on European roads due to their lack of experience, drivers have been given some tips on how to be safer when venturing into the unknown.

Avis Rent a Car has offered drivers some tips to make their journeys safer and more hassle free, with the first being for a driver to make sure they have European car insurance in case they are involved in an accident.

Drivers have been advised by the car rental firm that their journeys will be made safer if they are planned. Motorists should look to familiarise themselves with local maps or take a sat nav, as well as planning how long each specific journey should take.

Also drivers should maintain their safety by familiarising themselves with the driving etiquette of the country they are in. This includes what side of the road is the correct side to be driving on as a lot of accidents are caused by scenarios such as drivers heading the wrong way round roundabouts.

Recent research from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office found that two thirds of Britons that drive abroad are involved in an accident.
