Drivers 'should not skimp on maintenance'
Motorists who have secured a great deal on cheap car insurance could throw any savings away if they do not keep on top of basic vehicle maintenance, it has been suggested.
The British Insurance Brokers' Association reminded drivers their cover is only valid if their auto is in a roadworthy condition.
It explained this means the car must have a valid MOT certificate and owners should not be tempted to hang onto worn tyres to see if they can get another few thousand miles out of them.
Technical services manager Steve Foulsham pointed out: "If you were to have a claim, if your tyres were illegal, then technically that could nullify your insurance."
He added good vehicle maintenance is essential if drivers want to ensure their provider will pay out in the event of an accident.
Motorists looking to make cutbacks in the face of the recession may find it is a better idea to search for cheap car insurance online, rather than skimping on servicing and repairs.
