Drivers turning to car clubs
With the cost of car insurance, fuel and other motoring needs continuing to rise, many motorists are ditching their vehicles in favour of joining a car club, reports the Guardian.
Car clubs have been seen by many urban drivers in particular as a decent alternative to owning their own car, as it can make the cost of hitting the roads much cheaper.
With a car club, drivers are expected to pay an hourly rate for the car and the price for the petrol they use per mile.
But gone are the needs to purchase road tax and other such costs and a pay as you go car insurance will prove to be cost less for many drivers compared with picking up a full year's policy.
City Car Club's chief executive James Finlayson told the Guardian: "Clearly the huge rise in the cost of motoring has made many motorists realise they need to change the way they own and use a car."
Drivers looking for other ways to cut their motoring costs have been downgrading their car insurance, according to research from consultancy firm Deloitte, which found that 18 per cent of drivers are considering trading in their comprehensive car insurance for a third party policy.
