European car insurance 'is not only consideration when driving abroad'

Motorists need to do more than just take out European car insurance when heading abroad in their autos, it has been suggested.

Backpackers Ultimate Guides advised holidaymakers intending to drive on the continent this summer that they need to be particularly vigilant behind the wheel, especially during the first couple of days.

The publishing group explained it usually takes a while for Brits to grow accustomed to being on the other side of highways and byways.

It stated holidaymakers need to be especially careful when moving onto roundabouts and making left turns.

The company claimed good preparation could help a trip run smoothly.

Managing editor Tim Uden said: "Research the destination before travelling to make yourself aware of any local rules regarding parking and road tolls, as well as road rules and unfamiliar road signs."

People may also be well advised to make sure they have comprehensive European car insurance before leaving, as some policies automatically downgrade to third party as soon as the holder leaves British soil.
