European drivers shouldn't only worry about car insurance
Holidaymakers taking their car to the continent in the coming months have been warned that it is not only their European car insurance they should be checking before setting off on their travels.
Ian Crowder, spokesperson for AA Insurance, has advised drivers to make sure they also have travel insurance in case they become ill while driving or require hospital treatment.
He added that drivers should also be aware of the different road laws of other countries.
Mr Crowder said: "Road signs are generally the same as they are in Britain but there are some signs that might be a little bit different.
"Priorities on country roads which are unmarked or at roundabouts might be a little bit different. Remember to drive on the right hand side of the road and if you have a passenger, do make sure they are alert."
Recent research from Sainsbury's Car Insurance found that around 17 per cent of people are planning to take their cars abroad within the next year, with almost half of these people expecting to drive in excess of 1,000 miles.
