Garages 'need to show commitment to good customer service'

Motorists who know where to go to for cheap car insurance - but are not as sure about where they can get a good deal on auto servicing - may back an appeal for more garages to show their commitment to excellent customer service.

The Vehicle & Operator Services Agency (Vosa) has claimed it is important for firms to sign up to the Motor Industry Code of Practice for Service and Repair.

Companies who join the programme not only agree to ensure staff are competent and conscientious, they also promise to provide drivers with open and transparent pricing.

It costs £75 a year to join the scheme, which is designed to put rogue traders out of business.

Vosa's chief operating officer, Alex Fiddes, commented: "We would encourage MOT garages to sign up to industry codes and seek to improve standards for motorists."

Meanwhile, auto owners who already know where they can find the most competitively priced repair centre in their area may be able to save more money by searching for cheap car insurance online.
