Grey cars most prone to breakdowns

Superstitious motorists may want to avoid buying grey vehicles, as cars of this colour tend to be the most prone to breaking down, according to new research.

The study from iMotor found that 1.3 million grey car drivers in the UK will require breakdown assistance each year, with drivers of green cars second in the research.

Blue proved to be the most popular colour car owned by motorists, but this colour featured towards the bottom of the chart, with red vehicles the least likely to require assistance.

Mat Watson, editor of imotormag.co.uk, said: "The results are genuinely surprising. One theory is that many hire and company car fleets choose grey vehicles as the colour looks newer for longer, with dents and scratches less noticeable.

"These vehicles are often exposed to very high mileage, so perhaps their chance of needing assistance is greater. Then again, grey cars could just be cursed."

Meanwhile, young drivers have been told that they find it hard to obtain cheap car insurance because they tend to drive the wrong vehicles, with a large engine size, according to Gocompare.com.
