Interest increases in driving holidays
Long check-in times at airports are believed to be one of the main reasons for many Brits choosing to go on a driving holiday abroad during the coming May Bank Holiday, according to American Express Insurance Services.
Overall, nine per cent of Brits are considering taking the family on a driving holiday in Europe with a further 32 per cent considering going on a caravan holiday and travelling to their destination by car.
The research also found that there is a renewed interest in the number of people happy to take a ferry abroad, as shorter check-in times and the added convenience of having a car helps to improve the holiday experience.
Chris Rolland, head of American Express Insurance Services, said that for some Britons working long days means they want to reduce the amount of time they waste waiting around for a holiday, meaning a return to driving holidays.
He added that Brits should make sure they take out a European car insurance policy or another suitable policy to cover them and give them greater peace of mind to relax during their break.
Research earlier this month from car rental firm easyCar, found that a third of couples row behind the wheel when travelling abroad.
