Law-breaking drivers targeted by traffic squads
Motorists who don't want to see rises in their car insurance should make an extra effort to follow all rules on the road.
Police chiefs are increasing their attempts to target motorists who break the law, by sending traffic squads out to enforce more tickets.
Thus speeding motorists, those who fail to wear a seatbelt or those caught chatting on their mobile phone while driving, will all be more likely to get caught and issued with a fine or points on their licence.
And points on a licence may lead to an increase in the cost of a future car insurance quote.
The new regime aims to help police forces meet quotas, although AA president Edmund King told the Express that police performance should be judged on the reduction of accidents not on the number of tickets issued.
"Sometimes having a quiet word with the motorist about speeding can have more of a long-term effect than an anonymous ticket from a machine issued through the post," he said.
