Mother fails driving test for splashing pedestrian
A mother from Blackley, a district of Manchester, is going to have to take her driving test again after failing for splashing a pedestrian, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Michelle Kelly failed her third test after driving through a puddle and showering a pedestrian standing at a bus stop.
The 31-year-old was failed by her examiner, as she was told the incident was deemed as a traffic offence and she should have pulled over to exchange details with the wet bystander.
Splashing pedestrians is not mentioned in the Highway Code as an offence, but rules are in place for motorists to drive in consideration for all types of road users.
Ms Kelly told the newspaper: "I pulled in at the centre and the examiner said he'd failed me. He then spoke at length about the splashing. I didn't do it on purpose and didn't really think that much of it at the time but he said it was a fault.
"Apparently it constituted a traffic offence and he was treating it as a road accident."
She will now have to pay for another test and prolong her wait for cheap car insurance.
Another learner driver in Aylesbury was fined £400 after being pulled over the police for not wearing his seatbelt and as found to be driving without having an experienced driver in the car.
