Motorists avoid high emission cars in August

Thoughtful motorists are turning their attentions away from high emission cars because of the expense that comes with them, it has been stated.

Figures from cleangreencars.co.uk show that sales in the new car market fell by 18.6 per cent during August, with an even bigger reduction seen among cars which release the most CO2.

Vehicles such as Porsches, Land Rovers and Jeeps, which are also likely to provide a driver with a higher car insurance quote, saw their sales decrease by more than a half during August.

As the credit crunch continues and motorists look to get as much as they can out of their vehicles, Jay Nagley, Clean Green Cars publisher, believes that smaller cars are now the most sought after on the market.

He said: "Dealers have taken a big hit in August and the pain can only continue in September. The reign of power and performance looks to be over. As recession looms large, the new kings will be small, low-emission models."

Smaller cars are not only likely to provide a motorist with more miles to the gallon but also cheaper car insurance because of the size of their engine.
