Motorists 'fail to understand' severity of no car insurance
Many motorists choose to drive around without taking out car insurance because they don't understand the severity of the crime they are committing, it has been stated.
Lorraine Preston, communications assistant at the Motor Insurance Bureau (MIB), states that her company will work closely with the government and the police to change the attitudes of motorists who have this belief system.
She said: "Some people don't see uninsured driving for the crime that it is, and the police and the Motor Insurers' Bureau along with government are determined to change both the perceptions and behaviour of the uninsured, into those of honest motorists."
Statistics released earlier this month from the MIB showed that there are around two million drivers on Britain's roads who fail to have car insurance, with areas of the west Midlands proving to be among the worst, having six of the top ten worst areas.
Ms Preston added that the police now have full access to the areas which hold the most number of drivers who haven't accepted a car insurance quote and thus will use their Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) Technology to track down the culprits, seize their vehicles and give them a suitable punishment.
