Motorists risking higher car insurance by neglecting checks
Many motorists are failing to carry out standard checks on their cars, leaving them more susceptible to accidents and following on from this, higher car insurance quotes.
A study carried out on behalf of Automotive Technician Accredited found that nine per cent of motorists are failing to carry out simple service tasks such as checking tyre pressures and oil levels throughout the year between their vehicle's services.
Also, worryingly 52 per cent of the 1,338 car owners questioned had no idea when their vehicle was next due to be serviced, according to the findings released at the British International Motor Show in London.
The findings led to Sarah Sillars, chief executive of the Institute of the Motor Industry, stating that motorists need to become more service savvy.
She said: "Motorists really need to get more savvy now that cars have become so complex. This means making sure your car is well looked after at the right time."
Motorists using their vehicles on a driving holiday this summer are advised to be specifically concerned with carrying out checks, as well as looking over their European car insurance, as neglecting checks could increase the risk of a breakdown on foreign soil, according to the Highways Agency.
