Motorists 'should hide keys'

Drivers who have managed to secure cheap car insurance may lose their inexpensive cover if they fail to protect their vehicle's keys properly, it has been suggested.

According to Vauxhall, motorists need to be more cautious about what they do with this important item once they get home.

It pointed out that last year £3.95 million worth of autos were stolen after thieves took keys during house burglaries.

The manufacturer has teamed up with Bedfordshire Police is order to highlight the importance of this issue.

Spokesperson Simon Ewart said: "It's easy to forget that a car key is a valuable possession that needs to be kept safe."

This comes after Vauxhall research found 52 per cent of motorists were more concerned about protecting their laptop from thieves.

Meanwhile, security-conscious drivers who manage to avoid making a claim for a few years may find they can secure a good deal on car insurance online.
