Motorists told not to avoid car insurance

Motorists who live in areas where car insurance is especially high have been told that this is no reason to avoid paying it.

Recent figures from the Motor Insurance Bureau show that of the two million uninsured vehicles on UK roads, a large number of these can be found in large towns and cities, with the West Midlands responsible for six of the top ten worst areas.

Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the British Insurance Brokers' Association, believes that the expense of paying for car insurance in these sorts of areas is the key reason why people are choosing to drive uninsured.

He said: "One of the main reasons for putting people off buying insurance in the middle of Birmingham or middle of London is that it's extremely expensive compared to if you're living in a nice village in Wales. Because there's more crime, there's more traffic and there's more junctions, where incidents occur."

Mr Trudgill added that motorists from these areas should not abandon their search for cheap car insurance and instead should approach an insurance broker, who will help to find cheaper car insurance and get a policy to suit the pocket of a car owner.
