Motorists told to check car modification laws
Motorists who want to personalise their vehicle with their own modifications have been told to understand the law before they go out and have the work completed.
Jennifer Culley, spokesperson for Direct Line Car Insurance, has said: It can be difficult to keep track of laws relating to car modifications. For example, many people don't know that tinted windows must allow a minimum of 70 per cent light through them and personalised number plates must adhere to the DVLA format and fonts."
However, motorists should check before they have work carried out, as it would seem a massive waste of money to have to remove modifications that are illegal.
Having modifications fitted can also increase a driver's car insurance, as most improvements increase the performance or desirability of the car and thus make it more susceptible to theft.
The Insurance Daily reported earlier this year of findings from confused.com which stated that a driver who has had their car modified could see their car insurance increased by as much as 139 per cent.
