Motorists warned 'not to be dipsticks'
As National Oil Check Day approaches towards the end of July, motorists are being told that regularly checking a vehicle's oil levels could save them from costly repairs.
Car care company Comma, is launching the day on July 25 and is urging motorists to check their oil with the slogan "Don't be a Dipstick".
As many drivers are seeking ways in which to cut the costs of running a vehicle, such as shopping around for cheaper car insurance or driving more economically to lower fuel consumption, checking a vehicle's oil levels could prevent inconvenience, avoid breakdowns and costly repairs.
"By the time the oil light illuminates on your dashboard, you may only have a handful of miles before serious, and expensive, damage is caused to your engine," explains Comma's Mike Bewsey.
New research from Gocompare has found that motorists could save £222 on their car insurance by shopping around, which would be enough to cover the costs of the increases in petrol prices within the last 12 months.
