Multi-tasking 'could put cheap car insurance at risk'

Motorists could help protect their cheap car insurance premiums by not trying to multitask behind the wheel, it has been claimed.

Continental Tyres made this comment after conducting research that suggested British drivers are easily distracted.

Of the motorists questioned, 60 per cent admitted going into their own little worlds while in control of a vehicle and 59 per cent said they regularly forget sections of their trips.

A further 51 per cent revealed they make familiar journeys in a kind of auto-pilot state of mind.

Guy Frobisher from Continental Tyres said the pace of modern life often makes it feel like there is not enough time to fit everything in.

However, he added: "Driving is no time for multi-tasking. Our advice is to avoid distractions like eating or drinking or making a phone call, even if hands-free."

Motorists who are involved in an accident while trying to do something else at the same time might find their provider refuses to pay out and they may subsequently lose access to cheap car insurance.
