Navigation systems could help lower car insurance

Drivers that use a sat-nav could see a reduction in the cost of their car insurance renewals after it has been stated that GPS systems have a positive influence on a driver's road safety.

Being safer on the road and adding another year's no claims bonus will often gain a driver a cheaper car insurance quote and new findings from the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute and Dutch research institute TNO have found that drivers with a GPS system are less stressed on the road.

The research found that 72 per cent of drivers who used a portable navigation device were less stressed, 70 per cent were calmer in the car and 66 per cent found the GPS system made them more relaxed.

Jocelyn Vigreux, president of GPS company TomTom, stated that it has always been the company's long held belief that navigation systems provide drivers with added confidence on the road and that driving safely and efficiently go hand-in-hand with the use of a GPS system.

Drivers can extend their road safety further by fully understanding the rules of the road.

However, according to research from uSwitch.com, 34 per cent of a study of 2.500 drivers failed to answer a single question correctly in a basic driving theory test.
