Repair delay could cost

Over 70 per cent of drivers are delaying fixing a known fault in their car, making the problem worse and causing a potential danger on British roads, according to research from a car insurance company.

Research commissioned by Esure says that 33 per cent of motorists ignore problems in order to avoid paying out the cost of repairs and eight per cent admitted to not giving the fault any attention until the car is completely unusable.

Dave Cotterill, a spokesman for KC Auto's, said that delays in fixing a relatively minor problem could cause motorists becoming a danger to themselves and others on the road.

"In addition to the main safety issue, the cost of repair also increases significantly over time – continuing to drive with a fault is a false economy as it will cost the motorist more when they eventually do come to pay for the repair," he added.

Pricing of motor repairs shows that replacing the brakes pads can cost from £80 while avoiding replacement can result in damaged discs costing up to £200.ADNFCR-1379-ID-18482684-ADNFCR
