Road rage hitting motorists

Motorists have been advised to remain cool on the roads this Christmas and protect a potential cheaper car insurance quote in the future.

New research from swiftcover.com found that 88 per cent of motorists have been angered by other drivers at some point, with 22 per cent becoming frustrated every time they get behind the wheel.

Failure to use indicators was seen as the most annoying feature of a fellow motorists driving, followed by those who avoid the slow lane on motorways and then tailgaters.

Some 81 per cent of the study of 500 motorists became annoyed by drivers travelling too slowly, while 61 per cent were frustrated by those speeding.

Tina Shortle, marketing director at swiftcover.com, said: "It was interesting to see what makes the UK's drivers hot under the collar.

"It was clear that certain driving habits were far more likely to make people irate than others, so I hope drivers take note to make their driving as safe and considerate to other road users as possible this Christmas."

In September, a study by Confused.com found that over 15 million motorists in the UK have suffered from a spell of road rage while driving.
