Sat navs to provide road safety warning
Drivers who use a sat nav when on the roads may soon be able to have access to road safety maps, it has emerged.
EuroRAP, the European Road Assessment Programme, a non profit road safety group, is in talks with many sat nav companies to provide them with road safety maps including the most dangerous roads in Britain.
The move stands a good chance of improving safety on British roads, something which may help many motorists pick up cheaper car insurance quotes in the future.
Currently, the map shows the eight mile stretch of the A537, which runs between the Peak District and Macclesfield, to be the most dangerous after it accounted for 21 fatal or serious collisions between 2004 and 2006.
Joanne Hill of EuroRAP, told the Times that the sat navs will be tested this year and could be available next summer. The sat navs will provide the warning 'You are entering a high-risk area. Please be careful'.
While having no accidents or claims can reduce the cost of a future car insurance quote, motorists can also save up to £50 by paying upfront for their entire insurance rather than paying in instalments, research from uswitch has found.
