Some female drivers paying high insurance
Female drivers are finding themselves paying over the odds for their car insurance from some firms, new research has found.
Research from swiftcover.com found that women can pay as much as £600 more a year for their car insurance if they take out policies with certain firms.
The research took the details of four women drivers and found how much they would pay for their car insurance through various online insurers.
Surprisingly companies that specifically target female drivers like Sheila's Wheels and Diamond were seen to provide the higher valued policies.
Tina Shortle, marketing director of swiftcover.com, comments: "Statistically, women have been shown to cause less accidents than men, which means their premiums should be much lower, but even we were surprised in the difference between what they could be charged."
Female drivers looking to drive in Europe should also make sure they take out a European car insurance policy to cover them on European roads.
They have also been warned by research from uSwitch.com that paying their insurance in instalments could cost motorists an extra £50 on top of the overall cost of their policy.
