Spain 'cheapest European driving destination'

Motorists looking to go on a European holiday that provides them with the best value for money when using their car should travel to Spain, according to new research.

The Motoring on the Continent report from the Post Office, found that Spain provides the cheapest costs for diesel and car hire.

Drivers of cars that run off unleaded fuel would be best off taking a European driving holiday in Switzerland as their unleaded petrol only costs 92p a litre, eight pence cheaper than Spain who have the second cheapest.

In terms of diesel, Spain is the only European country to have costs below 100p a litre, petrol stations in Spain currently charge drivers an average of 94p a litre.

Drivers looking for cheap fuel should avoid taking a break in Norway as they have the highest prices in petrol and diesel both in excess of 140p a litre.

Motorists can also save money by shopping around for their European car insurance. Some companies only provide three days of European cover on UK car insurance, while others cover those that also drive in Europe all year round.
