Tourists 'could pay £10 to drive in London'
Drivers from out of town who want to travel into London could be charged an extra £10 under new proposals by the Lib Dem mayoral candidate.
Brian Paddick says that those who do not reside in the capital but wish to access the city's roads should pay the charge in a bid to reduce congestion.
"A Greater London congestion charge will have a real impact on congestion and pollution," he said.
"This will make a significant contribution to improving London's public transport system, in the suburbs as well as in the centre."
Concerns have been raised over the politician's transport manifesto, with tourism bosses fearing the penalty charge will put people off visiting the city.
Mr Paddick's proposals follow London mayor Ken Livingstone's announcement earlier this week that drivers in "gas guzzling" vehicles, such as luxury sports cars and "Chelsea tractors", will face a £25 congestion charge from October.
